Our Farm Our farm supports our love of animals and live nature. Our Icelandic Sheep graze the back acreage and are free to explore and experience the wonder of the forest where ferns, trees and Bamboo are plentiful providing a woodsy natural environment for all living creatures on our property. MayHill has a great stand of bamboo and we are delighted with ever expanding uses for this wonderful plant. The sheep love a fresh sprig as a treat. On MayHill we practice humane control of preditors in order to keep all of our domestic animals safe from bear, cougar, racoons and more. We like the concept of managing preditors without hurting them. "Nite Guard" is a blinking red "eye" that doesn't trouble the domestic animals like dogs, cats, chickens , sheep and all...but it does warn off the natural preditors who roam looking for a meal at night. Finally, our farm is certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. This is Sarafina with her 2 little ram lambs. She is a wonderful mother and they are adorable. They will not be neutered as they carry an excellent blood line for breeding and when weaned they will be available.
Here are our grandchildren, Bella and Conner with "Bubba", one of the new lambs at Mayhill. He is strong and rambunctious and it took both of them to hold him back long enough to get a photo! MOON AND CEDRO The little white ewe with the black face and black horns is Moonshadow. She is a yearling and very frisky. She is curious and if a fence has been breached, it is sure to be Moonshadow. Give her another year and she will settle some. The white horned ram is Sedro Wooly. He is a strong protector of his flock. He is just a yearling but he did very well for himself and the girls this year. When the ewes were birthing in the barn, he literally forced his ear to the barn wall to listen, got up just to eat a bite then back to his listening post.
MIMI AND SARAFINA Mimi is the black polled ewe. She is shy until you bring out your camera and then she has to get her wet nose all over it. Sarafina is the white horned ewe. She is gentle and friendly and loves her cheeks scratched. Both are pure Icelandic sheep. Prized for their wool, they are also excellent mothers and great foragers. Icelandic are an independent breed but will come quickly to a fresh sprig of bamboo or a blackberry vine
